STATISTICAL CALCULATOR

SC is a programmable and extensible system for data analysis, written in C. It is supplied with over 1400 built-in routines (compiled C) and external routines (written in SC’s C-like language), which are sufficient for most data-analysis purposes but which can easily be added to by the user. There is a manual which includes 8 tutorials, and extensive on-line help: almost all the manual is accessible on-line, and you can easily find relevant routines, check how to use them, even run supplied examples automatically. SC supports many recent methods that are not available in other software, especially in the fields of EDA, Robust Statistics, methods based on re-sampling (exact tests and intervals, bootstrap, jack-knife and Monte Carlo methods), and distribution-free procedures. There are many high-precision routines for distribution functions, including some which can use arbitrary precision arithmetic. Screen and hardcopy (Postscript) graphics are supported.

SC is a 32-bit extended DOS program, which can use any RAM available and can support up to 32 Mbytes virtual memory on disk.

SMALL SC is a version of SC produced initially for course use by the Open University, UK. Various SC built-in and external routines do not appear in Small-SC, mainly those for advanced statistics and those implementing very recent robust methods. There are more data-sets (237), a help-system which meets the stringent requirements of distance learning, and a 90-page manual on CD. Progress from Small-SC to SC is straightforward.
